It's a small world, Noosa

Sunday the 5th of August, we woke on the outskirts of Brisbane dressed  in every piece if thermal under garment we could muster after a freezing cold night... But we were officially on the road again - destination, Noosa.

Still a bit soft after our two months of Bali heat - we all piled into the car with our thermals still on, along with jackets, ugg boots etc.
People looked at us sideways when we stopped for brunch at a truck stop. Although the sun was shining and the skies were blue it was still chilly for us. No doubt we will acclimatize before too long,

The kids were given a quick view of Brisbane from their car seats and before long we were on the highway leaving the city behind us. We arrived in Noosa mid afternoon and began the task of setting up the van for the first time in 2 months.

Richard set up the outside while I set about dusting the inside of the van which was giving us all hay fever.  Jobs done, we went to do a shop before heading back to the park.
When we arrived back at the caravan park, a man by the name of Mike Branson, who lives in Mandurah, stopped to ask us if we were from Harvey after seeing our number plates.
A short chat and we had established that not only did he know my Dad (Phillip) through the truck industry but he also knew Richard's Dad (Ron) through the car industry and had been a guest at Ron & Lee's wedding. Before long we had met his wife Jan and were having dinner together.
He told us stories about the early days in the car industry working with Ron and and how my Dad was one of his major competitors while he was running Max Winkless.
We also spoke of all the people we knew mutually etc.... By one o'clock in the morning, well after any caravan park curfew, we said goodnight.

Yesterday morning, Monday the 6th of August,  after a slow start we ventured into the highlands that surround Noosa, the views of the coast were beautiful.
Looking back to Noosa

My boys

We stopped in a little town called Mapleton for lunch before coming across "the big cow" on the way home at a place called Nambour - this cow would look just as comfortable in Harvey....
The big cow, Nambour

We then took the coast road back to Noosa, stopping in the town to take in the views of the crystal clear blue waters from the surf club balcony - while the kids took a dip in the water.

Last night Jan had declared she was cooking dinner for us while I was making a salad & dessert.
This would be my opportunity to finally crank up the Thermomix. Mum you will be pleased to know it made a great chocolate cake & worked really well and Olivia, I didn't blow anything up nor did I wreck it, although it does make a hell of a noise!!
So around 6:30 Jan & Mike arrived with their friends from Perth, who they'd bumped into, along with a massive Shepherd 's Pie & a Thai green curry and Quinoa.

We had another great catch up over a beautiful dinner, while Nina played waitress & the boys washed the dishes. So they got their Home Economics Class for the day haha!!.

After such a late night the night before (much to the displeasure of our caravan park grey nomad neighbours), I am pleased to say we made the caravan park curfew tonight. Our neighbours will have little to complain about today although they had packed up and left before we were up - was it time to leave or did we help move them on? I suppose we will never know.

Today, Tuesday the 6th of August... I have stayed in the van to continue the clean up operation on the sheets, floors etc while Richard has taken the kids to Australia Zoo. They have taken the camera with them,  so no doubt there will be many photos for the next blog.

  1. Noosa is such a great place. That is where I go each year with my Melbourne girlfriends. Great restaurants but just a beautiful place. You have to do a walk through the national park up around the coast. Wish I was there it is so bloody cold here. The coldest winter ever!!! But I think al across the eastern seaboard has been the same. Enjoy Noosa xxx

  2. Thanks Noels, it's just such a shame there isn't a caravan park closer to the town. The town itself is gorgeous though, reminds me a little of Byron.
We are struggling with the cold nights even though the days have been perfect... I think Bali has made us soft. We ended up staying in Bali for 8 weeks, felt nearly 41 by the time we left haha!!!
I hope you enjoyed Thailand as much as we enjoyed Bali... no doubt you will be dreaming of the holiday with Canberra being so bloody cold.
How are you & Dougie going on the job front?
    Sending loads of love,
    Sonia xoxo
