An Airlie Adventure, Qld

An early morning walk, some brekky and a quick pack up and we were on our way out of Yeppoon this morning, heading north towards the tropical northern sunshine.

Yeppoon was a cute beachside town with a picturesque coastline but the central beachside caravan park in town was totally booked out, so we ended up staying about 15 kilometres out of the town, which wasn't quite the same.

Plus, we had something on the boil which was good enough to leave town for.
A few phone calls and we had a 42ft catamaran by the name of Seawindow, booked from tomorrow, for the week ...(thanks for your help with that Deb)... so we thought we'd high tail it to Airlie  Beach, where we would be boarding the catamaran, to cruise the Whitsundays.
It's all vey exciting and something Richard & I have dreamt of doing for a long time.

So north we trekked - filled with enthusiasm and excitement for the next adventure. Before long we were on the Bruce Highway and back in the heart of sugar cane country.
The first major town on the way was Sarina, home of the big cane toad, which adorns the middle of town.. Something to be proud of, no doubt;-)....
There's nothing like a big ugly cane toad as a town emblem, Sarina
We were heading into north Queensland's big territory, so stay tuned for more big things.

Another hour up the road and we were in Australia's sugar capital, MacKay, which produces a third of Australia's sugar as well as being a big mining town.

The scenery along the way was breathtaking at times, with huge mountain ranges towering over vast sugar cane fields.

500 kilometres later, a sign told us we were in the Whitsunday's....

and before long - we were in beautiful Airlie Beach...

The place is not unlike Byron Bay, it has that real touristy, holiday, bohemian feel about it and the coast line is stunning with the water bluer that blue.
Tonight,  we pack our bags and get ready to enjoy an Island hopping, Whitsunday's adventure.
