The Great Ocean Road

We considered ourselves very lucky this morning, the 2nd of March, after our walk around the spectacular Blue Lake in Mount Gambier, we got back to the caravan park to find that, overnight, the section of the park where we were going to set up camp for the night, was in the firing line of a big tree, which had been blown over by the strong winds.
Richard says he was never going to park there anyway (despite reversing into the spot and then changing his mind)  I say Mary MacKillop was watching over us after our visit to Penola...  a fool with faith maybe??? maybe not!!! Either way we were lucky.

We packed up camp and said goodbye to Mount Gambier, not quite knowing where we were going other than we wanted to see the Great Ocean Road... so that's the direction we headed in.
We crossed the SA border into Victoria just before a town called Nelson and turned our clocks forward another half an hour.

We drove through Portland and was amazed by how big it was and continued on until we hit Port Fairy. A beautiful little town filled with heritage buildings.. it was originally where I had wanted to stay for the night, but we decided it was still to early to set up camp so we continued on our way.

Before long we had hit the Great Ocean Road... WOW... what a natural wonder!!!
We stopped along the way at the Bay of Islands which was spectacular (but blowy) then the Arch, before reaching the 12 apostles, each one a spectacle and taking our breath away.
All of us at the Bay of Islands

The Great Ocean Road in itself was amazing... I hadn't expected such diversity but we went from awesome breath-taking coastlines to rolling countryside to green lush forests... all along a thin winding road.
We couldn't believe some of the views, farms with views of rolling hills on one side and the rugged coastline on the other...magical!!!
Tonight we are in Apollo Bay, we have decided to set up here for a couple of night before we head to Melbourne on Sunday.

Our Caravan Park is beautiful and overlooking the ocean, but it is so windy there will be no annex or outside living for the time being.
In Perth we'd consider ourselves in the middle of a category 4 cyclone - here, it's just a bit blowy... what a difference a state or two makes - welcome to Victoria!!!
