We then took a drive around the town, venturing to the top of Anzac Hill where we could view the town from above...

We then headed towards the RFDS museum where we got to watch a movie on the great service the Royal Flying Doctor provides to outback Australia.

Grocery shopping was also a must after everything had to be thrown out when the fridge broke down. Richard has managed to fix it for the moment.
By afternoon, we were back in the caravan park. The kids went to have a swim and a jump on the bouncy pillow while I had an afternoon Nanna nap and Richard watched TV... it was nice to chill after the last few days on the road.
Around 5ish we headed towards the Mall, where the Masters Games Opening Ceremony was going to begin. There were thousands of people from all over Australia, dressed in team colours and parading through the streets. It was such a fun filled environment. So many teams had gone to so much trouble to dress up....

A competing cricket team takes it all very seriously...NOT! |
The parade started at the opposite end of the alphabet, so it was a long while before we finally saw the Badminton sign and Rob & Minnie.

It's amazing how many West Australians have made the trek across to compete.
We laughed when we walked into the show grounds to see this tent... only in the NT...
The parade ended in the local show grounds where each sport was introduced before a few dignitaries spoke and officially declared the games open with a fireworks display...

A band, which was unknown to me, then took to the stage, followed by Vanessa Amarosi.
We left the party around 9:30 after a great night of dancing and fun.

Sunday the 14th of October, Richard and I were up for our walk and we then headed back to the caravan park where the kids all had pancakes, cooked by the park managers in the camp kitchen.
All set, we got in the car to head into the Town Centre only to find that the car wouldn't start.
So we waited around while Richard charged the car battery but there was no joy, so we called a cab and left the car battery on charge.
I chuckled to myself when I saw the cab driver arrive, wearing a turbin, I suppose I just didn't expect that out here.
As we drove into town through the suburbs, I couldn't help but notice how every single building and home is barricaded with high fences and brick walls. It's like everyone here lives behind a fortress. Obviously a sad necessity.
We ventured into the Mall to the Sunday markets for a while, where Richard brought himself and the boys a new didgeridoo. He's hoping to teach the boys how to play it. We then headed back to the caravan park to check on the car and yay, it was working.
Richard had found out the day before that the Alice Springs races were on, so I drove him and Jack up the road to the races while I spent the afternoon chilling with Harry and Nina and doing some washing. I picked the boys up around 5ish and we went back to the van to
get ready to meet Rob & Minnie out for dinner.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see either of them play Badminton in the Masters Games because their games aren't until Monday.
Dinner at a restaurant called Red Ochre was really nice and it was lovely to sit and chat to Rob & Minnie and have a nice catch up.
We all had a chuckle when Rob, Minnie & Jack ordered a lemon, lime and bitter and the waitress came back to say Jack wasn't allowed to have one because the bitters have alcohol... the rules here are a little different for obvious reasons.

Monday we head off in the direction of that big rock aka Uluru. The kids are very excited about seeing it with their own eyes.
