Coffin Bay & Swimming with Tuna

Tuesday the 14th of February, Day 2 had us warming to Coffin Bay a little. An early morning trek along the historic Oyster Walk saw a more beautiful side to this town in the softer morning light.

After some school, we had the tinny in the water hoping to bag some King George whiting, which this place is renowned for, along with its Oysters, of course.
The big surprise of the day was Nina. After Richard brought her a pretty pink fishing rod in Ceduna, she was ready to hit the waters and not only did she catch the first fish, (a King George whiting) but she caught enough whiting to feed us all for the night, much to the boy's disgust.
Some would say "beginners luck" but Nina didn't care and before long it became a competition against Jack, who also caught a few. Nina was up to the challenge but with enough for dinner, we called rods in and headed back to shore.

Wednesday the 15th of February was  an early rise for Jack and I, who did the morning Oyster Walk together, before we set off for Port Lincoln for the big day ahead of swimming with the tuna fish.

We boarded the charter boat and before long we had wet suits, goggles and snorkels on and were in the tuna farm surrounded by blue fin tuna.
They were being fed while we were swimming, so they would shoot past us, under us, over us with amazing speed.
It was an awesome experience!!! They weren't as playful as the sea lions but they definately had their own personalities.
Some were happy to be touched while others weren't as friendly.

The trip home was spent up with the boat's skipper, gaining some local fishing knowledge before we pack up camp in Coffin Bay and move half an hour south to Port Lincoln for a few days, the home of  the famous Makybe Diva.

After lunch in the Port, we went back to Coffin Bay. I tackled an ant infestation in the toilet (have I mentioned I hate ants and any other creature that can get into nooks and crannies uninvited), while the kids played mini golf across the road.
A very proud Harry was the winner!!!
