The Lock Cup

It was farewell to Port Lincoln yesterday morning the 19th of February... after a memorable few days for us all. Richard & Jack with amazing memories of their dive with the white pointers and Harry with special memories of being spoilt & made to feel very special on his 8th birthday.

Yesterday was also special for Richard & I, 12 years married. So we began the day with an early morning walk to soak up Port Lincoln's beauty one last time.
Over coffee we exchanged gifts.... I was blown away by my present, a beautiful pearl necklace to match the earrings I got for Christmas. Very spoilt!
Richard's presents of a new pair of jeans & some new sunglasses seemed so dull & boring after that.

After packing up we set off for a little town called Lock. We had never heard of it either before coming across posters in our travels advertising the Lock Cup Day.

As you all know, Richard hates a punt, so we decided that Lock was where we would spend our anniversary.

Richard had called the Lock Race club earlier in the week about accommodation & was told we could set the caravan up in the car park & stay the night. So that is exactly what we did.
Set up beside the Lock Racecourse

We arrived about 11 and all had showers & dressed up in our race day finery.
It was nice to see all the gals had gone to a lot of trouble to dress up, I figured that like me these days, they probably rarely get an opportunity to get dolled up.

There was a fresh Oyster stall & food of all description. The kids quickly made friends & so did we and before long we were made to feel like part of the Lock community. I love that about country towns. So after hours of eating oysters, drinking champagne and gambling, I know you will all be shocked to hear that we were the last to leave.
It was a great day, backing the winning horse in the Lock Cup helped, but the friendliness of the town folk made it even more enjoyable. It was one of those random days that turned to gold.

Today the 20th of February... we left Lock early, bound for our first major city, Adelaide, but we take with us some great memories of the Eyre Penninsula. It's nice to know there is so much more to South Australia than Adelaide.

  1. What a classic day. Do you reckon you're ever going to get the big fella back to work?

Have a safe trip over to premier state of Australia!

    Cheers browny.
