After all, what would an Australian (or West Australian) adventure be, without a trip to Bali?
So accustomed to being able to get on a plane and be in Bali within 3 hours from Perth, it was a bit of a shock to the system to be leaving at 10am and not getting into Bali until 10pm... hence Tuesday was a flight from Brisbane to Darwin, then a 4 hour stopover in Darwin, before another flight (delayed) to Bali.
Our arrival into Darwin was momentous for us, it now means we have been into every Australian state and territory on our Aussie adventure...

By the time we arrived in Bali, we were all feeling pretty wrung out... being put amongst kids whose feral parents had no idea how to control them, wasn't part of the plan, but (if nothing else) it did make me appreciate how well behaved my own kids are.
Getting off that plane and feeling the humidity was bliss. It's been ages since we could take off our jumpers.
Ron (Richard's Dad) was such a welcome face - there to pick us up - he was almost bowled over as the kids launched themselves at him with hugs and kisses. It was priceless.
We then went to Ron & Lee's new villa - Villa Hai - which they have only moved into in the last month. Lee (Richard's Mum) was there to greet us all and again, it was cuddles all round...

Beautiful Villa Hai |
Yesterday, Wednesday the 13th of June was a fairly quiet one, as each day in beautiful Bali seems to melt into the next. We spent time exploring the beautiful new Villa and its surrounds.
Nina and I popped out to the local salon to get our nails done while the boys went to hire a motor bike and then Lee & I had a massage later in the afternoon.

It was then a sunset drink on the beach and some dinner, before heading back to the Villa for an early night.
This morning, Thurday the 14th of May, Richard was up bright and early to catch a plane back to Perth for a day to do some work. After saying goodbye - I went for a morning walk, chatting to the friendly locals along the way. I love the Balinese people, they are all so welcoming and they are always full of smiles.
When I returned, everyone was up and about and breakfast was being made... as has become a breakfast custom for the kids when they visit Bali, it was banana pancakes x3....

I then took the kids into Seminyak Square for some shopping and to make a hair appointment, before meeting up with Ron & Lee back at the villa.
After another massage this afternoon (life is tough here:-) I went to have my hair chemically straightened. Anyone who knows me well enough, knows that I have feral hair. I had it straightened here in January fully expecting it to drop out (because it was so cheap) but it has turned out to be the best hair straightening ever, so it was time for some serious business... the roots needed a touch up.
I had to laugh at the hairdresser Ricky.... He was putting some sort of substance in my hair. When I asked him what it was, he told me it was Semen... not knowing whether to laugh or cry I asked him if he meant serum??? "No Miss Sonia, It's Semen." was his reply. I then explained to him that NO, that's impossible and that it must be serum and that he should never tell a westerner that he's putting semen in their hair. I was hoping he would leave it at that, but he then asked "Why Miss Sonia? What does this mean." I have never been so embarrassed trying to explain to this young male hairdresser, in broken english, what it meant... anyway, he finally got the gist and after we both belly laughed for at least 5 minutes, he then said very little for the rest of the procedure, no doubt, just as embarrassed as I was.
I am pleased to say the straightening was another success and tonight my hair still remains in my head despite the... "There's Something About Mary" episode.
When I got back to the Villa this evening, the kids had their ears glued to their ipads listening to the footy (they couldn't get it on TV) while Ron & Lee were entertaining Ian & Carol, the architects and former owners of Villa Hai.
They are also Aussie ex-pats from Melbourne. It ended up being a relatively late night listening to their entertaining stories... they are great characters.
Tomorrow, we have no plans - other than to relax and soak up some rays. What else would you do in Bali?
