Thursday morning the 16th of August and we were up bright and early to pack the van. It was sad to leave our little caravan park and the people who had taken us under their wings and made us feel like family, Bev and Les and Margaret, a permanent who lives in the park. She was up early and moved her car for us, so that Richard could hook up to the caravan....

Margaret & Ziggy |
After saying goodbye to Margaret and her trusty and loyal border collie Ziggy we were off and on our way to meet up with Andrew, Olivia, Tom & Lola - who were driving up from the Gold Coast to join us for the weekend.
We met up in a little roadhouse outside of Gympie. The cousins were so excited to be seeing each other again, and after the kids decided which cars they wanted to travel in, we were all on our way. With Andrew towing a fishing boat, suddenly the convoy had gotten a whole lot bigger....

The convoy |
Along the way we passed through Childers, where the backpackers died in the fire. It was a beautiful old town. We also drove through Bundaberg, well known for its Rum and Ginger Beer and Bert Hinkler, the famous aviator.
We were also getting into sugar cane country with fields and fields of sugar cane - plus, the mercury even reached 28 degrees. A sure sign that we were heading in the right direction.

By around 2ish we were finally in 1770. A strange name for a town, but a little research told us that it was the year Captain Cook landed here, hence the name.
We set up our caravan and Andrew & Olivia had a chalet next door so it was all perfect.
The boys busied themselves very quickly playing footy, while the girls coloured in and played.
By around 6 we caught a courtesy bus to the local tavern for dinner, arriving just in time to watch the sunset....

Nina took this photo of Olivia & I (guess who is who) it made us laugh. |

Here we are |
It was a beautiful family catch up with the adults having one too many over a few laughs well into the night.
This morning, Friday the 17th of August, I got up and went for a walk into the town, which is very small but pretty. The weather was beautiful, it was the first morning since we arrived back in Australia from Bali that there wasn't a chill factor.
When I arrived back it was breakfast for everyone and packing sandwiches for the boys who were off fishing.
The kids kicked the footy while the girls had a swim in a little pool, left behind in the tide....

The boys had failed to catch any fish but had seen an amazing display of whales frolicking in the ocean.
They decided when they dropped the girls off that they would also call it a day, so it was a quiet Friday afternoon in the caravan park.
